GRAPE VARIETIES: Sercial
VINEYARDS AND VINIFICATION: Grapes from various quality vineyards from Jardim da Serra were used. Grapes were pressed in a continuous press. Arresting of fermentation takes place at the desired degree of sweetness by adding vinic alcohol (96%).
MATURATION & BOTTLING: My family still continues to preserve the traditional methods of making and aging Madeira wine. This wine is my first Sercial in Frasqueira category and was produced from grapes grown in Jardim da Serra, on the South Coast of Madeira Island. In 1992, Sercial grape had a short production as it was a rainy year. However, despite all the rain, this wine aged beautifully throughout the last 20 years. This is the reason why I have decided to bottle this Frasqueira witch is also a single cask. This Sercial 1992 was aged in an 850 litter old French oak cask with number 72. In March 2013, 1.000 bottles have been filled, all individually numbered.
Alcohol 19.37% Vol.
Total sugar 53,7 g/l
Volatile acidity 1,02
SERVING & CELLARAGE: Madeira wine should be kept vertically and in cool dry place. Decanting is recommended, serve best 16oC or low room temperature 18oC. It will keep well several months once opened.
TASTING NOTES AND HARMONIES: Amber bright colour. Notes of exotic polished wood and lightly smoked. Aroma of dried nuts and figs. Meaty and extremely smooth. Impressive freshness after taste due to the magnificent crispy acidity.
